Forbidden Fruit Guy
This time it has gone TOO FAR. I went to see the fruit guy last week to buy a banana. Normally he makes some sleazy remarks. For example, if I walk by, he might offer me "a cherry" or he'll wave a banana in my face saying (of all fruits) "banana, 25 cents not 30." But this time he crossed the line. I was opening my wallet to get out my change when he looked me up and down and remarked, "Nice arm." "Um, thanks?" I responded. And then he raised his hand and asked, "I like your arm can I touch it?" without taking a breath. I flinched and took a step back. But I didn't walk away. Heck, I had a nice bowl of cereal and cold milk waiting upstairs just begging for some banana. He sensed a moment of weakness.
"Here," he said. "Banana. Very good. Nice arm. Can I touch?"
I was horrified.
"I give you banana, two pears, three dates, I touch it."
Ew! I took my banana and ran. Now I have to plan circuitous routes to avoid passing Fruit Guy on my way to the office. Even worse--he's made fruit unappealing to my coworkers as well--poor MK can't look at oranges the same way anymore.
So now I might just fork over $0.75 for a friggin banana at the Pret A Manger in my building. Because though I don't mind being taken advantage of monetarily I refuse to be taken advantage of sexually. Feminism! And next time he waves a banana in my face and asks to touch something of mine, I'm calling the po po.
