A New Addition to Our Family!

Yes! It's finally happened! J and I are now the proud, proud owners of a 42 inch plasma screen HD TV! Goodbye Granmda TV (the one that came with our apartment was from the 1970's) and hello 2007 TV. I am so happy. The ironic thing is--J and I are not really TV watchers. But perhaps that's because our previous TV was from the stone age. I had forgotten that every channel should not have a reddish-orange tint to it.

It's kind of a big deal for our relationship, if you think about it. We have about a year to pay off this purchase, which means this better work out at least till then. And on top of it, we have that five year warranty. J and I agreed to try to make it work and do whatever it takes, you know, at least for the TV.

Art!

Baryshnikov, my love. Last Thursday night, E. invited me to attend a gallery opening of photos taken by Baryshnikov (i.e. Carrie's Russian lover on S.I.T.C., aka big guy in the ballet world) on 5th ave and 58th. As I walked through the revolving doors of the building of the gallery, I bumped into countless photogs and ballerinas...By the time I got upstairs, E. informed me she had just seen Annie Liebowitz leave the show. I didn't expect to be so star struck by this short, older man in cream colored converse sneakers and a suit. By the looks on every tall, well-dressed woman at the gallery, Baryshnikov was the hunk of the evening. Oh, those poor dark rimmed glasses twenty-somethings with shaggy hair and suit jackets. They paled in comparison to the adorableness of Baryshnikov. Dreamy.

The actual photos were just so-so. They looked like blown up versions of the type of pictures a person who'd just discovered playing with his digital camera might take (blurred images, different types of flashes, etc.) But the people-watching was divine. Women were dressed to the nines in adorable graphic print dresses and heels. I even saw Elizabeth Berkely of "Saved By The Bell" fame! Sadly, I had just come from the gym. I hope I wasn't captured in ANY of those photos. If I was, I am sure I was blurred out (much like my NYTimes Style section debut).

After that show, we headed to another gallery. Jules's boyfriend Lee had a couple pieces of his work up at a private auction. This crowd was more my speed--the typically East Village/LES types (note: The types who USED to frequent that area, not the I-bankers who crawl all over it now). His pieces were by far the superior ones of the show. He works in the neatest way--by injecting his canvases with needles. The effect is so beautiful and different.

Afterwards, E and I went to Patsy's for a huge pizza.

On Friday night I was sitting at Cafe Centro eating my chips and salsa, discussing my wild days of yore with E., when I looked to my left, and one of my authors and her husband was sitting within arms length of me! What a small, small city I live in.

Tonight I went back to yoga, after all this time. It was taught by candle-light. The mellow atmosphere did little to ease the pain of having not gone for such a long time. I am sure to be sore tomorrow.

And now, laundry needs to be folded. Domesticity!
